01 — Overview
A cultural centre dedicated to the traditional Mask Dance of Sikkim. The project creates an interactive environment where visitors can experience the dance, understand its making and engage with the local culture.
02 — My role
Project design and individual contribution stated separately
- Cultural research
- Concept development
- Space planning and spatial diagrams
- Model making and sketching
- Digital rendering
03 — Concept
The concept of rhythm is derived from the movement and character of Mask Dance. This rhythm is translated into the spatial experience through changing forms, movement and visual connections between spaces.
04 — Design approach
The centre brings together a library, café, amphitheatre, auditorium, workshop, gift shop and supporting spaces. Adjacencies and visual connections are designed to create an interactive journey through the cultural centre.
05 — Materials and lighting
Natural textures and a warm material palette complement the cultural context while allowing the movement and spatial rhythm to remain the primary visual language.
06 — Design outcome
A cultural environment that moves beyond simply displaying the Mask Dance and instead allows visitors to understand, experience and interact with the culture behind it.
Process
01 — Research and concept
02 — Plans, isometric and views
